Meet Dejan: Our Production Manager

As a production supervisor, Dejan is responsible for planning and logistics. In addition, he works operationally with the production itself and ensures that Geonor has full control over the entire process from inventory to finished product.

Dejan is originally from Croatia and moved to Norway from Serbia in 1998. He is an electrical engineer by training and has previously worked as a CNC operator at Norway's largest door manufacturer. When he joined Geonor in October 2023, geological instrumentation was a completely new field. Before starting, he had never actually held a soldering iron, so the transition was both challenging and educational.

He does not hide the fact that it has been a steep learning curve, but thanks to good, intensive training from his predecessor, he has quickly become proficient in the profession. Today, he acts as the link between the order and the finished product. The job requires both overview and practical skills.

– Basically, it's about planning the week. See what we're missing, build up the inventory and order the parts we need. The role of foreman was created to have someone who has an overview of production and personnel use, says Dejan.

From complex meters to large projects

The role of production supervisor is twofold. Dejan must both control logistics and inventory, while assembling instruments side by side with the rest of the production team. However, it is this variety in the workday that makes Dejan thrive:

– I like the combination of sitting quietly with planning and doing something practical where you burn some calories. I can largely control my daily life myself, as long as we jointly ensure that deadlines and deliveries are met. That trust and freedom mean a lot, he explains.

Although the installation in the field is often done by others, Dejan and the production team contribute to several of the large deliveries that are sent out from Geonor. Production requires patience and precision, especially when it comes to special orders. One of the most extensive projects Dejan has been involved in was a delivery of several thousand sensors for rain gauges.

– It was quite a job. We make the equipment here, and when the projects involve equipment we produce ourselves, I am involved in the entire process of building it, he says.

Freedom, trust and good mood

Beyond the professional challenges, it is the people and culture that make Dejan thrive. He describes the environment at Geonor as inclusive, unhurried and not very bureaucratic.

– There are good people here and short distances to those you need to talk to. Here you can say what you think. There is also a lot of humor in everyday life – that is needed, he says with a smile.

He also highlights that it is exciting to work in a company that is focused on the future. With new and larger premises, everything is in place for the production department to grow and take on even more assignments in the future.

Scented candles, football and family life

When Dejan is not in the workshop at Geonor, he spends time with his wife and three daughters. He also has a creative side that many may not know about: he runs a sole proprietorship where he produces and sells scented candles and incense sticks.

– It started as a hobby, but has turned into something more, he explains.

Otherwise, he is above average interested in football, whether it's from the stands or at home in the living room. And although he enjoys an active job, he doesn't hide the fact that he appreciates a quiet evening with Netflix when the weather doesn't invite outdoor activities.
