Geophysicist and geohazard: Meet our new technical leader

In August, we welcomed Zbigniew (Ziggy) Greplowski as our new Technical Director. With over 17 years of experience in the seismic industry and a focused education in geohazards, he brings a set of skills that are perfect for our needs and future plans.

– My task will be to collect the ideas from the team, prioritize and choose what we should work on first. I see great potential for further development, and it will be exciting to pick out what is most relevant to our customers, says Zbigniew.

The road to Geonor

Originally from Krakow, Poland, Zbigniew is a geophysicist with expertise in geohazards. He came to Norway for work and has since built a life here. He spent the first four years of his career offshore on seismic vessels, before moving to an office-based role in Oslo with a focus on project management and customer contact. After completing his further education in geohazards, he wanted a change of job. He had a strong desire to use his new knowledge and return to more practical fieldwork.

– The whole package appealed to me. Here I get to use both my technical background and my new education, while at the same time giving me the opportunity to develop further, he says.

After several years in the industry, it was also the desire for a more versatile everyday life that led him to apply to Geonor.

- I wanted to try something new, learn something new and work a little in the field again. After 14 years behind a PC, I wanted to get some fresh air. I'm very happy that I now have yellow clothes and can get out a little, smiles Zbigniew.

The role of technical manager

After a few months on the job, Zbigniew tells of a varied workday. The week starts with a project status meeting to review inquiries and allocate tasks. The days are then filled with customer meetings, sales processes, equipment preparation and testing, and not least field work.

A key part of Zbigniew's new role is also to lead the technical development work at Geonor. He sees great potential for innovation and has already identified concrete opportunities in the product portfolio. He now looks forward to driving the development forward - in close collaboration with the rest of the team.

Zbigniew is already involved in two large, socially beneficial projects: monitoring in connection with the construction of the Fornebu Line and the new water supply to Oslo from the Tyrifjord.

– These are incredibly meaningful projects. Our job is to monitor closely and notify if something is not working properly. It is about safety and can ultimately be vital.

An international team

Zbigniew describes the working environment at Geonor as very good, with a pleasant and inclusive team. The team is international, with specialists from all over the world, which creates a learning environment.

– Even though everyday work is hectic, the collaboration is good and we learn a lot from each other, he says.

He is looking forward to getting to know his colleagues even better, and not least building a strong team together. Geonor consists of a smaller team of around ten employees, which Zbigniew sees as an advantage.

“When the entire company can gather in one room, decision-making processes become short and very efficient,” Zbigniew points out.

More than just a technical manager

Even with a demanding and exciting job, Zbigniew is clear that the balance between work and leisure is important – a balance he experiences as good at Geonor. Most of his time outside the office is spent with his family, which consists of his wife and three school-age children.

– There will be a lot of time for family, corps and packed lunches, he says.

In addition to spending time with his family, Zbigniew enjoys cycling, skiing and rallying. He is clear that his active and balanced everyday life gives him the energy needed to face new challenges at Geonor.

Welcome to Geonor!

With his solid technical insight, a strategic eye for innovation and a personality that values both teamwork and balance, Geonor is proud to have Zbigniew on the team. His commitment to the profession and to developing new solutions will undoubtedly be a great strength for the company in the years to come.
