An inclinometer is typically used to monitor deformations and movements in the ground or in structures by measuring changes in inclination in a vertical measurement channel. The measurements are taken at intervals (often 0.5 m) through the measurement channel to create a profile of the horizontal deformations. This can either be done manually, by lowering the measuring probe and then raising it during the measurements, or by using a chain of sensors that are automatically read by a data logger. Logged data is usually remotely read and sent to a server and web presentation.
