The need to monitor natural forces and structures in order to protect tunnels, roads, bridges, railways, sources of drinking water, groundwater reservoirs and other elements of societal infrastructure is something that will only increase in the coming years.
Our modular and holistic solutions are designed to be able to conduct monitoring in a way that is straightforward and cost-effective while facilitating continuous data transmission from sensors and loggers either telemetrically to your head office or directly to an online user interface. These solutions are well-suited to all projects, big and small. Geonor has supplied complete solutions to enable remote monitoring using everything from 3 to 300 sensors.
In recent years, Geonor has installed systems for a range of big and small projects to enable monitoring of ground conditions using the Internet of Things (IoT). The main components in our communications solution are supplied from Worldsensing SA and their Loadsensing system. See Worldsensing . This communications solution can be connected to a variety of different sensors and is capable of displaying data via a GIS access solution/web portal provided by Vista Data Vision.
Remote reading by Geonor and other sensors
This is a comprehensive solution enabling remote reading of more or less all types of sensors: groundwater levels, pore pressure, inclinometers, load cells, crack/tilt meters, weather data, temperatures, environmental parameters, etc.The solution includes reading of sensors at your preferred intervals and the transmission of data once a day or more frequently if you prefer. The results are automatically routed to a web interface and displayed in the form of graphs/curves or in tabular form. Systems can consist of 2 different types of loggers and communications systems, or can be a combination of these:
1) Communications between data logger(s) and Gateway(s) pass over a radio frequency in a closed IoT system (e.g. LoRa). Communications between Gateway and an FTP server to a website pass over GSM and are updated there in the same way. This is a cost-effective, eco-friendly solution since there is no need for a SIM card in the logger and the batteries used are smaller and last longer.
2) All communications pass over GSM. This system consists of a cabinet with data logger(s) and a GSM modem. The solution includes reading of sensors at your preferred intervals and the transmission of data once or several times per day. The results are automatically routed to a web interface and updated there in the form of graphs/curves or in tabular form.
3) A combination of both GSM/cellular network and IoT LoRa to an FTP server, which is then displayed via the same web portal.
Data loggers and websites
Geonor uses loggers and Gateways from Worldsensing whenever solutions allow for the use of radio communications between loggers and the Gateways. Worldsensing's Loadsensing system is the world leader in terms of IoT-based communications for applications in building and construction.
Geonor primarily uses data loggers from Campbell Scientific when communications pass over GSM/the cellular network. These are robust and flexible data loggers that are among the most widely used for professional measurement and monitoring purposes.
For display purposes, including GIS and website updates, a solution supplied by Vista Data Vision is used.
